Ramblings and musings

Jenni and I both had the idea to put some type of tribute to Mom on our blog on March 23. Well, she was more inspired than I was on that day, but I decided to take today since it's mom's birthday and I've been thinking about her a lot. I still don't feel particularly inspired, but I thought I'd share a picture from a birthday of hers a long time ago. (It doesn't show up very well, and not to be prideful, but I do think the cake I made was not too shabby for an approximately 10 year old. : ) I've been thinking a lot about a neat memory I have of mom that I think some of you would maybe appreciate. I remember ages and eeons ago at church one time we were singing the song "Amazing Grace." When we sang the last verse ("When we've been there 10,000 years... we've no less days to sing his praise than when we first begun) she whispered in my ear something like,"Do you realize what this is saying and what that means? Stop and think about it!" I remember sitting there trying to wrap my kid brain around it and every time I've sang that song since then I've thought of that. And now I guess it's a bit more
poignant.

Hey Rachel, what great memories! That's also a mighty fine looking cake. Mom passed away on March 13 -same time of year (although different year). Her birthday was in Feb. Thinking of you!

Rachel,That picture takes me back to Red Lake days, when 6 of you litle girls were such close friends !! I'm with Rhonda, I love that smile !!
I was talking with someone this past week about what a GIFT our memory is. Did you ever stop and think about what it would be like to NOT be able to recall so many precious memories in life !??
What a precious "gift" for you to have such wonderful memories of your dear Mom that will be with you ,till the day you join her singing Amazing Grace together again !! Sondra

I have tears in my eyes. I didn't see you mom very much in her last years, but I still have many good memories of her. I can't tell you how many times I've thought about her gift of sewing and how creative she was. Also, anytime I picture your mom she's always smiling.

I'm very impressed with the cake you made!

Beautiful picture and story. Yes, I always picture your mom with a big smile on her face. And I remember her staying up late with us playing games. Thanks for sharing your memories with us.

Rachel--I see your Mother in you in so many ways---such a funny, but very tender heart. We love you and miss you and enjoy your memoirs. "Our precious memories" are ours to keep and no one can take them away!

What a great picture. That picture takes me back to those fun times that we had together. I am with you Robyn, I remember Barb staying up late and playing a game with us. I can't remember the name of the game, but I think it was an older game that you can't buy anymore. Rachel, maybe you remember what it was called. Thinking of you during this time.

LaRonda - I think you're talking about the ungame maybe. I remember the 3 of us playing that back in the day and her telling us about her really really nasty school teacher.

Hey Kristi - could you put a link on here to your blog again? I seem to have misplaced it.

O.K., so I've been travelling again and not reading blogs on a regular basis. Now that my eyes are full of tears I'll try to write anyway. I too have many great memories of your Mom and my friend. We shared so many things, especially the last 6 or so years of her life. I still think of her when I see my stenciled bedroom because she inspired me to do it and taught me how. I often have tears when I pick flowers out of my front flower bed because it was something we did together. I raised them and picked them and she arranged them so beautifully. Wonder what kind she's gathering these days? Love you Rachel!

Rachel dear,
What a beautiful and powerful memory of your dear Mother! Oh that as sojourners here on this earth, we could be representing the Kingdom of Heaven in such loving and gentle ways to our children and grandchildren and others as well. Thanks for sharing your beautiful memory of your Mother!
I have a suggestion for you, Rachel. Why don't you connect with Bethany Gieb sometime, and drive on in here to PA. and visit us. OK? We'd love to have you come! Thanks for the touching tribute to your Mother
Love you much!
